It was 40 years ago this week that John and Yoko held their historic bed-in for peace at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal. It was on that occasion the pair (with a little help from their friends) recorded the award winning composition “Give Peace A chance”. Although a distant event, the message they promoted has as much relevance today. In keeping with the occasion, individuals and groups have come-together with commemorative activities around the globe including the village of Omemee, Ontario. In particular, our own Youngtown Museum and Omemee Pro-Hardware sponsored an intimate musical event attracting upwards of 80 guests. Activities included a presentation on John and Yoko’s 1969 peace campaign by educator Steve Hughes out of Toronto, a musical performance by the talented Christopher Clause from Hamilton, and a premiere tribute performance by “The Beatlz 4” from the Kawartha Lakes area. The evening proved to be great time for all concerned and a significant reminder that “peace” is still every bodies business. Thanks John and Yoko!
